Congratulations to Francesca Boone, the winner of the Cool Tools Random Review Contest for February. Francesca has won a $100 gift certificate for reviewing her Oval Pairs Jewelry Shape Template. Francesca gave our templates a great review saying, “These are lovely shapes. They are smaller than I thought they’d be. Very versatile however.”

Francesca was excited about being the February winner:

Francesca Boone“I was VERY excited (and GRATEFUL)  to get your email.  My current “love” is working with Precious Metal Clay.  I love it because it’s easy, it’s quick and almost anything becomes inspiration for a new piece.

I have just moved to FL from McKinney, TX.  I am busy creating new pieces as most of my current work is at a newly opened store in McKinney, TX called Art On The Veranda, which carries local artists work. I mentioned “current” because like many artist, it’s never just one thing that grabs our attention.  I have received awards, and have been published for my porcelain painting. I have created stained glass pieces and many other artistic creations….but PMC has held my heart the longest.

Nature is perhaps my biggest inspiration.  My husband laughs at me sometimes, when he sees me stop to study something on our walks.  Sometimes it’s a particularly textured leaf, sometimes a texture in the concrete, or sidewalk, sometimes a bud from a Crepe Myrtle or the way the light plays off of a building….it’s all inspiration.

I purchased some Stalactite gemstones from Cool Tools which will be in my next pieces.  Since I now live in “Gator” land, I am trying to keep that in mind when designing a new piece.  The Stalactite gemstone will have a alligator texture backing.  I have also purchased (from COOL TOOLS, of course) some orange and blue gemstone (UF colors) which I will be embedding in earrings.

What is there not to love about creating with precious metal clay? I also cannot imagine a source better than COOLTOOLS to be MY source for everything I need to make beautiful jewelry. I received my PMC certification from a senior artist in NYC,  Vera Lightstone many years ago. I was born in Rome Italy have lived all over the world and speak several languages fluently.  I have two adult sons who live in NJ.

Thank you again!

Francesca Boone

PS: If you’re curious about my porcelain, please feel free to “Google” my name~typically the first thing that comes up is an image of a piece that won a bronze ribbon in an International competition and an article I wrote to accompany the photo as it was published in the IPAT publication.”

Congratulations to Bonnie Kyles, the winner of the February Cool Tools Survey Contest. Bonnie has won a $100 gift certificate simply for offering us her thoughts.

Bonnie was excited and told us a little about herself:

Jewelry by Bonnie Kyles“I am positively thrilled to be the February winner! There’s always something on my wish list at Cool Tools as you have great products and exceptional customer service.

I just retired from 38 years of teaching elementary students, my number one passion, so am devoting a large portion of my time to a more recent passion: wire and metal jewelry design. A few years ago I started wireworking  and then realized I could easily combine that with metalsmithing to create an endless array of designs! I took a basic metalsmithing class and have continued to broaden my skill set primarily through reading books and through pure experimentation.

The bracelet is an example of some of the techniques I’ve been focusing on recently. I rolled copper tubing with paper to get the wavy lines, did a heat patina and riveted the components.

Thank you in advance for the the gift certificate. I will put it to good use!

Congratulations to Maureen Nucera, the winner of the January Cool Tools Survey Contest. Maureen has won a $100 gift certificate simply for offering us her thoughts.

Maureen was excited and told us a little about herself:

Jewery by Maureen NuceraI would like to let you know how excited I am to be the January winner of this generous Cool Tools Gift Certificate. Since I have been a customer of Cool Tools I have been extremely satisfied with the products and customer service I have received.

I began designing and casting gold jewelry 25 years ago when I worked for a jeweler in New Jersey. Over the past 5 years I have been spending my winters in Florida attending various art classes at the local art center including designing silver jewelry. This is where I was introduced to precious metal clay as a medium for jewelry. I have been impressed with the ease and Maureen Nuceraversatility that the clay allows me in my work.

My Sincere Appreciation and Thanks,

Maureen Nucera”

Johna-ComptonJohna was excited and told us a little about herself:

“Wow!  Thank you!!!  I’m excited to be October’s winner.   I will definitely be using the gift certificate for buying PMC products.

Most of my jewelry making to date has been working with PMC; however I am expanding into some lapidary projects to incorporate into my PMC jewelry.  I’m a beginner with PMC but have found it very easy to work with even with little training other than videos and books.

Jewelry making is one of my retirement hobbies.   I enjoy making jewelry for family, friends and myself.

Thank you again for selecting me as the October winner.

Nancy gave our bench trays a top 5-Star rating and said, “I love these trays to separate sizes or colors of CZs, embeddables, or other small items. Shape is also great for pouring into other containers”.

Nancy-SandersNancy was excited about being the July winner:

“I was thrilled to learn that I was the July winner of the Cool Tools Review Contest! I love to order from Cool Tools, as they have great selections, prices, and service.

I’ve been taking PMC classes for about 1 1/2 years, and enjoy tremendously learning and exploring with it. Our PMC class is made up of incredibly friendly and talented women of all levels, from an artist new to PMC to our very knowledgeable teacher. I thought it would be fun to share the prize with everyone in the class, so all of us could celebrate together and enjoy something new. Thank you for this opportunity, Cool Tools!

I’m also learning to make dichroic glass jewelry, and I would like to combine these two mediums. I’ve never considered myself artistic before, so this is a whole new world for me, and I love it!

Congratulations to Dorien Green, the winner of the Cool Tools Random Review Contest. Dorien has won a $100 gift certificate for reviewing a honeycomb soldering board. Dorien gave our soldering board a top 5-Star rating and said, “Great product. The size of the soldering pad is perfect for small job”.

Dorien was excited about being the August winner:

Green-Dorien-Facinator“I thought I would send you a photo of a piece I have just entered into a juried event at the Museum of Art and History, Santa Cruz, CA. The show itself will run December 2013-February 2014. The piece  is called ‘Facinator’  after a Facinator Orchid, which was my model. It is forged and fabricated in Copper, Silver and a Baroque Pearl. The Monterey Metal Arts Guild is sponsoring this show and I am a board member of the Guild. I have found belonging to a Metal Arts Guild has opened up many new opporturnites for me to grow as a Metal Artist. I have been working as a Metal Artist for the past 7 years, taking classes from many wonderful Metal Artists in San Diego and now in Santa Cruz, CA. I have my studio in my home, which makes it convenient to work on projects when time allows. Most of my work is one of a kind, inspired by the Ocean and Nature!

I am so thrilled to be chosen as August’s Product Review winner! I am definitely a ‘toolie’ (someone who loves metal arts tools), so your generous Gift Certificate will be very much appreciated. Thank You Cool Tools!!

Congratulations to Kathryn Richardson, the winner of the Cool Tools Random Review Contest. Kathryn has won a $100 gift certificate for reviewing the Slik she purchased. Kathryn gave our Slik a top 5-Star rating.

Kathryn was excited and told us a little about herself:

Kathryn Richardson“Wow! I really won something?! Perhaps now I can start prowling the Cool Tools pages for new goodies.”

Kathryn Richardson is a jewelry designer currently based in the Kansas City area. She designs jewelry with the stone in mind, enhancing the natural beauty of gemstones and pearls instead of hiding them under a tangle of coils and seed beads. Her pieces are made with solid metals – sterling silver, fine silver, and copper – or with vermeil and gold-filled components. Her designs often incorporate handcrafted accents in wire or metal clay. To add more sparkle, she adds Swarovski crystals to white topaz and faceted rock crystal to make original holiday jewelry.

She is fascinated by “the metamorphosis that changes a plain stone into a dazzling gem then into a radiant piece of jewelry. It takes the right combination of color, form, metal, and design.” A life long artist, she is familiar with the magical potential of color and contrast. She also has a passion for colored stones (her father always checked her pockets before heading home from vacation). She only began designing jewelry 15 years ago, selling her pieces in several galleries in the Midwest. She also created pieces inspired by the collection in the Nelson-Atkins Museum that were available only in the gift shop.

She teaches classes in basic stringing and simple wirework (“I teach students to wrap natural gemstones so the inherent beauty of the stone comes through.”). She also holds stringing sessions for a local women’s group. Out of the studio, she is an avid photographer, inquisitive explorer, experienced gardener, and scuba diver.
