Congratulations to Danielle Nunn-Weinberg, the winner of the Cool Tools Review Contest for June. Danielle has won a $100 gift certificate for reviewing the Nouveau Fouquet Texture Tile she purchased from us. Danielle gave our texture a top 5-star rating and said, “This texture tile completely captures the feel of the Art Nouveau (AN) movement. It produces a pattern that contains the best artistic elements of AN: fluid, curving lines, scrolls and coils, along with small details which focus one’s attention on the larger whole. On a more practical note, the pattern makes absolutely gorgeous pendants and earrings.”

Danielle-Nunn-WeinbergDanielle was excited about being the June winner:

“Thank you so much!  My birthday was last week and this feels like a belated birthday present.  LOL!  I am completely thrilled that I should win something.  Hmmm, about me… Well, I have a rather diverse background so I shall try to summarize it. After high school, I spent three years between two different universities.  After that I decided to go to college to get a more practical education.  I graduated from their Public Relations program and discovered that the economy at the time was terrible and that there weren’t any jobs in my field.

It was then, with my husband’s encouragement, I finally found something I enjoyed.  I would have applied to the jewelry making program at a different college except that it was too late, admissions were closed for that program but still open for the Gemology program.  I loved it and happily became a Graduated Gemologist.  After graduating, I did some temp work and started in the jewelry program part time.  When I was about half way through the jewelry program I got offered a place in the University of Saint Thomas Art History Master’s  program.  So my husband and I picked up and moved to the Twin Cities for graduate school.  I loved grad school and was almost disappointed when I graduated because it was so much fun.  So I got a Master’s in Art History, specialized in 16th century English clothing and textiles.  After that, I went to England to get my doctorate but health problems stopped me from finishing my degree and I came home at the end of the first year.  After I got back, I was looking for something I could do, I discovered an introductory class in PMC.  I was so glad I did this, since it felt so right immediately.  I made my first PMC jewelry sale to the class’s instructor.  It was a ring (which fit her perfectly) and the design of it became integral to my developing style.  Although my interest in historical textiles and clothing continues, it felt like texture was lacking in many cases.  PMC fed my love of texture and provided an outlet for my creativity.  Although I like it best when I can mix various media, like my lampworking, PMC, traditional silversmithing, and various textiles,  texture is also why I love your products so much.

Sincerely,
Danielle”

Congratulations to Lisa Sealy, the winner of the Cool Tools Review Contest for May. Lisa has won a $100 gift certificate for reviewing the Tapered Square Jewelry Shape Template she purchased from us. Lisa gave our template a top 5-star rating and said, “Love the unique shape for jewelry. I used these templates to make a pendent and matching earrings out of copper clay. The template is a great alternative to squares.”

Lisa was excited about being the May winner:

Jewelry by Lisa Sealy“Wow! What a great way to start my week! Thank you so much for the gift certificate at Cool Tools. I can add to my ever growing supplies for metal clay jewelry designs.

Living in Anchorage, Alaska, I am always looking for new indoor hobbies to do during the long winters. I’ve done beading off and on for years. In recent years I’ve  taken up glass fusing for a creative outlet. I was introduced to metal clay in Tucson this past February. Being interested in various art forms and jewelry design, I was instantly hooked. I am continuing classes in metal clay, locally now. I may have to give up my day job, just to find enough time to keep up with new design ideas and methods.  I’ve worked with fine silver, sterling silver, and copper clays so far.  I learned about Cool Tools from an instructor. It has become a great resource for supplies and information.

Here is the jewelry set I made with the template I reviewed from Cool Tools, in ACS Copper clay.

Thanks again. I can’t wait to start shopping and creating.

Congratulations to Robert Rantz, the winner of the Cool Tools Random Review Contest for April. Robert has won a $100 gift certificate for reviewing the Double-Sided Pendant Settings he purchased from us. Robert gave our Pendant Settings a top 5-star rating and said, “It was fun cutting the gemstones for the piece and the web site gave perfect size dimensions so cutting it was easy. Two sides, two gems, brilliant.”

Jewelry by Robert

Robert was excited about being the April winner:

“Hi, here is my first piece I made.

I hope in time I can make pieces as beautiful as I have seen on your site. I have had a few break because I think I made them a little thin, but am in a learning process. I do love the way you can create with it and hope I can send a picture in the near future of a piece that will come out to be as beautiful as some I’ve seen on your site.

I was so excited when I had learned that I was a winner for the April drawing and told my wife that now I have a chance to get more supplies to keep up with new jewelry making ideas. I think she was more excited than myself, hint hint, on a piece she wants me to make for her next.

Thank you so much Cool Tools for the gift.

Sincerely,

Robert J Rantz II”

Congratulations to Taylor Adams, the winner of the April Cool Tools Survey Contest. Taylor has won a $100 gift certificate simply for offering us her thoughts.

Taylor was excited and told us a little about herself:

Taylor AdamsI love to create! Throughout the years I’ve traveled in various directions using different mediums, some long forgotten, and others a staple in my daily designs. Everything I do at the time provides me with much joy.

I have a small Etsy shop that is a destination where I can direct my interested customers and potential customers to view more of what I design and create. (I work in metal clay, enamels, fabric, embroidery, tiles, leather…. whew! I see something new and I’ve just got to try it! Yet, I do know my limits.)

I am filled with much satisfaction when something I have made enters the life of someone and it makes them happy in some way. How cool is that!?!

One of my signature pieces is a silver metal clay piece I call “Silver Tranquility”.  Along with the necklace, I include a bit of symbolism of the bamboo. It speaks of inner strength and flexibility, bending in the wind but not breaking because of its deep roots. This is the characteristic of many Jewelry by Taylor Adamswomen!

I have been a happy customer of Cool Tools for many years. I am almost addicted to their antique molds! So useful and they really get my creative juices flowing. I love how Cool Tools keeps adding new products, tutorials and inspirations. It’s like they know me and know I need more, more, more!

Thanks for the wonderful gift certificate of $100. I will spend it happily!

Congratulations to Barry Nielsen, the winner of the March Cool Tools Survey Contest. Barry has won a $100 gift certificate simply for offering us his thoughts.

Barry was excited and told us a little about himself:

Chain Maille by Barry“My wife and I are very excited to have been chosen as the winner for the March Survey. We have been doing various styles of Jewelry making for a few years now and just recently started looking into the metal and polymer clay to expand our current works. My wife does beading and wire work while I focus more on the Chain Maille, lapidary arts and metal work. Adding Metal clay has given us the opportunity to think outside the box for bails, clasps, beads and bezels.

We recently have begun the work of setting up a new business for our jewelry, lapidary and custom made writing instruments, Nielsen Industries Inc. We have found Cool Tools to be a great resource as we add to our ever growing collection of tools and supplies.

Thanks again for the great service and theChain Maille Set by Barry gift certificate. It will be put to good use. Attached are a couple of pictures of just some of the recent Chain Maille items that I have done on a beautiful piece of Blue Lapis. We will be creating most of our Chain Maille items in Stainless, Titanium, and Argentium Silver. We also do a line of Chain Maille out of Aluminum for a light weight every day wear jewelry.

Once again thanks so much.

Barry E. Nielsen”

Thanks so much for offering the contest for folks that review items purchased from Cool Tools. I love your company and all of the wonderful variety and quality you offer your customers.

I started many years ago doing bead work and have evolved into metalsmith work. I make bezels settings, work with PMC, enamels and still do some beading as well. Over the years I have purchased lots of great tools and supplies from you and so appreciate the variety and ease of ordering from you.

Again, many thanks!

Congratulations to Francesca Boone, the winner of the Cool Tools Random Review Contest for February. Francesca has won a $100 gift certificate for reviewing her Oval Pairs Jewelry Shape Template. Francesca gave our templates a great review saying, “These are lovely shapes. They are smaller than I thought they’d be. Very versatile however.”

Francesca was excited about being the February winner:

Francesca Boone“I was VERY excited (and GRATEFUL)  to get your email.  My current “love” is working with Precious Metal Clay.  I love it because it’s easy, it’s quick and almost anything becomes inspiration for a new piece.

I have just moved to FL from McKinney, TX.  I am busy creating new pieces as most of my current work is at a newly opened store in McKinney, TX called Art On The Veranda, which carries local artists work. I mentioned “current” because like many artist, it’s never just one thing that grabs our attention.  I have received awards, and have been published for my porcelain painting. I have created stained glass pieces and many other artistic creations….but PMC has held my heart the longest.

Nature is perhaps my biggest inspiration.  My husband laughs at me sometimes, when he sees me stop to study something on our walks.  Sometimes it’s a particularly textured leaf, sometimes a texture in the concrete, or sidewalk, sometimes a bud from a Crepe Myrtle or the way the light plays off of a building….it’s all inspiration.

I purchased some Stalactite gemstones from Cool Tools which will be in my next pieces.  Since I now live in “Gator” land, I am trying to keep that in mind when designing a new piece.  The Stalactite gemstone will have a alligator texture backing.  I have also purchased (from COOL TOOLS, of course) some orange and blue gemstone (UF colors) which I will be embedding in earrings.

What is there not to love about creating with precious metal clay? I also cannot imagine a source better than COOLTOOLS to be MY source for everything I need to make beautiful jewelry. I received my PMC certification from a senior artist in NYC,  Vera Lightstone many years ago. I was born in Rome Italy have lived all over the world and speak several languages fluently.  I have two adult sons who live in NJ.

Thank you again!

Francesca Boone

PS: If you’re curious about my porcelain, please feel free to “Google” my name~typically the first thing that comes up is an image of a piece that won a bronze ribbon in an International competition and an article I wrote to accompany the photo as it was published in the IPAT publication.”

Congratulations to Bonnie Kyles, the winner of the February Cool Tools Survey Contest. Bonnie has won a $100 gift certificate simply for offering us her thoughts.

Bonnie was excited and told us a little about herself:

Jewelry by Bonnie Kyles“I am positively thrilled to be the February winner! There’s always something on my wish list at Cool Tools as you have great products and exceptional customer service.

I just retired from 38 years of teaching elementary students, my number one passion, so am devoting a large portion of my time to a more recent passion: wire and metal jewelry design. A few years ago I started wireworking  and then realized I could easily combine that with metalsmithing to create an endless array of designs! I took a basic metalsmithing class and have continued to broaden my skill set primarily through reading books and through pure experimentation.

The bracelet is an example of some of the techniques I’ve been focusing on recently. I rolled copper tubing with paper to get the wavy lines, did a heat patina and riveted the components.

Thank you in advance for the the gift certificate. I will put it to good use!
